App Guide

A Main Event is the main outing format — large group, A/B team pairings, Canadian skins, optional group side games, and GHIN posting. Tap Main Event → + New to create one.

Game Info fields
  • Your Name — the creator's name, used to label the PIN lock.
  • PIN — 4+ digit code. Required to edit teams, refresh handicaps, mark complete, or delete. Anyone can view and score without a PIN.
  • Game Name — defaults to "Main Event [date]". Edit freely.
  • Date — used for sorting and GHIN posting.
  • Best Ball (Teams) card — Entry ($ per player) for the team competition pot (default $10), Places paid (1 place 100%, 2 places 75/25, 3 places 50/30/20) and how teams are made (Manual, Random or Blind Draw).
  • Skins — the kind and the entry per player for the skins pot (set it to 0 to turn skins off). The Skins entry sits with the skins options, not at the top of the form.
  • Skins kind — Canadian (lowest gross + net, the classic), Net (lowest net at full handicap) or Gross (lowest gross). A tie wins nothing. Tick No par 3s to leave the par 3s out of the skins altogether (no skin and no carry on them).
  • Second skins game — pick a second kind (for example Net and Gross together) with its own entry and pot. Players who opt out of skins are out of both, and "No par 3s" applies to both.
  • Closest to the Pin — turn it on, tap the holes (big buttons; the Par 3s button picks them from the course) and set the entry per player. Everyone playing it puts in the entry and the pot is split among the hole winners: each hole that has a winner is one share, so a player who wins two holes gets two shares, and a hole nobody has taken holds no money. Each player has their own CTP box (unticked = not in, cannot hold the pin, does not pay in), separate from the skins boxes. Tick Separate pots for each tee if players on different tees should not compete (a blue-tee player from 210 yards against a red-tee player from 140): each tee then has its own holder on every hole and its own pot, split among that tee's winners. Name only, no distance. On a CTP hole the scoring page shows a "Closest to the pin" box: the first group on the green sets the name, a later group replaces it only if closer (ties go to the later group). Whoever holds the name when the last group is through wins the hole. Tee order (Groups page, 1 = first out) decides who outranks whom: a later group's pick stands over an earlier group's, and an earlier group's late (offline) pick is kept as history but does not change the name. The game's PIN holder can override or clear a name.
  • Individual net (100% handicap) — a pot everyone is in: set an entry per player and how many places are paid (1, 2 or 3; 100% / 75-25 / 50-30-20). Players are ranked by net score at full handicap (capped at 18 if the cap is on). Entry 0 turns it off.
  • Group vs group — each playing group's best net scores on every hole against the other groups, net at 100% handicap. Best 2 of 4 and Best 3 of 4 count that many scores on every hole. Irish best ball counts 1 score on holes 1-6, 2 on holes 7-12, 3 on holes 13-15 and all 4 on holes 16-18. The group with the lowest total to par wins the pot (entry per player); a tie splits it, and the group's share is divided among its players. Entry 0 shows standings only.
  • Remembered choices — whatever you set (entries, skins kind, the extra games, cap, places) is the starting point the next time anyone in the group sets up a game. You can change these during a round from Game options on the leaderboard.
  • Cap handicap at 18 (toggle, ON by default) — limits every player's playing handicap (for both the team game and skins) to 18 strokes. Prevents runaway stroke counts.
  • Use 12-month low handicap (toggle, OFF by default) — when doing GHIN lookups or refreshing handicaps, uses each player's 12-month low HI instead of their current HI. Useful for competitive events.
  • PGA pro add-on game (toggle, OFF by default) — see the PGA Add-On section below.
Course selection
  • Pick from the preset list (The Preserve, Chapel Ridge, Holly Ridge, Scotland courses) or choose Other… to search by name and state.
  • Selecting any course automatically loads all 18 pars and stroke indexes and presents a Tee dropdown (slope / course rating per tee set). Selecting a tee fills the pars/SIs and applies slope/rating to all players who don't have an individual tee assigned.
  • Each player has a tee icon (⛳) that lets you assign them a different tee for their individual course handicap calculation (useful when mixed tees are in play).
Team Assignment mode
  • Manual — players are auto-sorted into A group (low handicaps) and B group (high handicaps) and paired into two-person A/B teams. You can re-arrange pairings on the Teams page.
  • Random — teams are assigned randomly after creation.
  • Blind Draw — teams are hidden until the creator taps "Draw & Reveal Teams" on the leaderboard. Great for suspense.
Adding players
  • Roster quick-pick — green badge buttons at the top of the player list pull from the known roster. Tap a name to instantly add them with their stored handicap. Players already in the list are greyed out (however they were added: picked, imported from a signup, or typed) and come back if you remove them.
  • + Add Player — opens a blank player slot. Type a name (autocomplete from roster pops up), enter a handicap index, and optionally set a tee.
  • GHIN Lookup — enter a GHIN number or "Last, First" name in each player slot to pull their current handicap from the USGA GHIN API. Multiple results show as buttons; tap to select. This also upserts the player into the local roster.
  • ↓ From Signup — imports all signed-up players from an existing Signup sheet (skips duplicates).
  • ↻ Update Handicaps — re-fetches current GHIN handicap indexes for every player in the list who has a GHIN number stored.
  • Skins checkbox — uncheck to exclude a player from the skins pot (they still play the team game). Useful for guests or players who didn't pay skins entry.
  • Remove a player with the ✕ button on their row.
After creation — Teams & Groups

After saving, you land on the Teams page. Review A/B pairings and re-arrange if needed, then tap Create Groups to split players into playing groups (4 players per group is standard). Once groups are created the game status changes to Active and scoring can begin.

Leaderboard tabs
  • Teams — current standings sorted by net to par. Shows each team's net score, position vs. field, and money owed/won.
  • Skins — lists each hole's skin result: won (who won, gross score) or carried (no winner yet). Total pot shown at top.
  • Players — individual net scores and playing handicaps.
  • Groups — links to each group's read-only scorecard.

The two group shortcut buttons at the top of the leaderboard jump directly to the score entry page for each group — handy quick-access during play.

Score entry — groups list

Tap Enter Scores from the leaderboard. You'll see every group with each player's hole-completion badge (e.g. "9/18"). Tap Enter Scores for your group to open the scoring page.

Scoring page
  • Shows all four players on the current hole. Scores default to par; use − / + to adjust.
  • The hole selector at top lets you jump to any hole. Completed holes show a checkmark.
  • Tap Save & Next → to save and advance to the next hole.
  • A mini live scorecard below the entry form updates after each save.
  • + Side Game button (top-right) opens the group side game setup.
  • Spectator QR — makes a link and QR code anyone can open, without signing in, to follow the live scores read-only (scores only, never money or personal info; an admin can turn it off; it stops working 3 days after the game).
Scorecard dot legend
  • · purple top-left — stroke at 85% handicap (used for Main Event team scoring and Nassau side game)
  • · red top-left — stroke at 100% handicap only (used for Canadian skins)
  • · bottom-right — stroke vs. low man in Nassau side game (only visible when a Nassau is active)
  • Double circle — Eagle (2+ under par)
  • Circle — Birdie (1 under par)
  • Plain number — Par
  • Box — Bogey; Double box — Double bogey; Triangle — Triple or worse
Completing the game
  • Enter all 18 holes for all players in all groups.
  • From the leaderboard, enter the creator PIN to unlock management actions.
  • Tap Mark Complete. The app calculates skins, team results, and payout amounts.
  • The Post to GHIN button appears on the leaderboard for completed games at courses with a GHIN ID — posts all players' 18-hole adjusted gross scores to GHIN (requires GHIN Auto-Post credentials, or uses the app's built-in GHIN account for The Preserve).
Other creator actions (PIN required)
  • Teams — edit team pairings after creation.
  • Update Handicaps — re-pulls GHIN indexes for all players mid-round (use before scoring starts for best results).
  • Delete — permanently removes the game and all scores. Cannot be undone.

Each playing group can run its own side game independently of the Main Event competition. Tap + Side Game on the group scoring page to set it up. Options: Nassau, Sixes, Nines, or None.

Nassau
  • Teams — assign each player in the group to Team 1 or Team 2 (independent of Main Event pairing). Typically 2v2 but any split works.
  • Bets — set separate dollar amounts for Front 9, Back 9, and Overall 18. They can all differ.
  • Handicap Mode:
    • Play off low man — the lowest-handicap player in the group plays to zero strokes; everyone else gets the difference between their Playing Handicap and the low man's. This is the standard stroke-play equity method used in serious games.
    • Full 85% — every player uses their full 85% playing handicap (no relative adjustment).
  • Cap handicap at 18 — limits Nassau playing handicaps to 18 strokes.
  • Auto-press triggers at 2-down (the trailing team gets a new bet from the current hole). Presses appear in the Nassau scorecard row with arrows (↑ = up, ↓ = down, 0 = all square).
Sixes
  • Four players rotate partners every six holes: Segment 1 (H1–6) A&B vs C&D, Segment 2 (H7–12) A&C vs B&D, Segment 3 (H13–18) A&D vs B&C.
  • Use the Player Order (A B C D) dropdowns to set which player is A, B, C, D — this determines who partners with whom each segment.
  • Starting Nine — choose Front (starts H1) or Back (starts H10); segments shift accordingly.
  • Set a single Bet per segment dollar amount.
Nines
  • Three-player rotating individual game. Each hole is scored 5/3/1 based on net rank (best net = 5 pts, middle = 3, worst = 1).
  • Set a Starting Nine (Front or Back) and a single Bet per segment.
  • Overall winner is the player with the most points after 18.
Nassau row on the group scorecard

When Nassau is active, the scorecard gains a match-score row below the player rows. Each column shows the running match status from the leading team's perspective. Below the grid, a Nassau summary card shows Front / Back / Overall result, active presses, and per-player dollar totals.

Enable PGA pro add-on game on the Main Event setup form to run a PGA pick'em alongside the regular game. Set a per-player PGA Entry fee.

How it works
  • The field for this week's active PGA Tour event is fetched live from ESPN. Each player picks one pro.
  • Team score = the pro's round score (to par) + the player's own net score at 100% handicap (not 85%).
  • Lowest combined score wins the PGA pot.
  • The PGA add-on leaderboard appears as its own tab on the Main Event leaderboard.
ESPN / field notes
  • The app pulls each pro's thru count and round score. Players who have made the cut show their score; post-cut eliminations are marked.
  • If no PGA event is running this week, the field will be empty — enable the add-on only on tournament weeks.
  • Pro picks are made on the leaderboard page before or during the round via the PGA tab.

Tap Stand Alone Side Game on the home screen. This is for smaller games (2–4 players) run independently — not inside a Main Event.

Step 1 — Setup: game type & players

Game types:

  • Sixes — 4 players, rotating 2v2 partners every 6 holes.
  • Nassau 2v2 — two 2-person teams, three bets: Front 9 / Back 9 / Overall.
  • Nassau 1v1 — two players head-to-head, same three-bet structure.
  • Blind Nassau 1v1 — each player enters their own scores privately. Opponent's result only reveals after both post the same hole.
  • Nines — 3 players, rotating individual 5/3/1 scoring every 6 holes.

Players:

  • Tap a name in the green Roster panel to auto-fill a player slot.
  • Or type a name — autocomplete pops up from the member roster.
  • GHIN lookup: enter a GHIN number or "Last, First" in the lookup box and tap Lookup to pull current handicap.
  • For 2v2 games, each player card shows a Team A / Team B toggle.
  • When a GHIN course is selected, a per-player tee picker appears for automatic course handicap calculation.
Step 2 — Confirm: bets & handicap setup
  • Front / Back / Overall bet amounts — set separately for Nassau; one bet per segment for Sixes.
  • Junk toggle — enables per-hole junk side bets (see the Junk section for full details).
  • Allowance — percentage of each player's course handicap to use. Default 85% for Nassau and Sixes.
  • Cap at 18 strokes — prevents any player from getting more than 18 strokes.
  • Handicap Mode:
    • Play off low — low-handicap player plays scratch; others get the difference vs. the low man's strokes at the chosen allowance.
    • Full — everyone plays their full handicap at the chosen allowance.
  • Strokes display — shows each player's computed playing handicap. You can adjust with +/− before starting.
  • Sixes partnerships — the tee icon shows the A/B/C/D rotation. Tap it to shuffle randomly.
Step 3 — Round dashboard
  • Shows the current hole, live bet status card, full scorecard, and the Enter Scores — Hole N button.
  • The bet card shows each segment's running status (e.g. "Brown +1" or "AS" for all square).
  • Press Options — expands a panel to trigger manual presses or view active presses. Last-hole presses only appear on the final hole of each segment.
  • Share Live View — link and QR code for family and friends to follow the live scores, read-only and without signing in.
  • Edit Hole N−1 — lets you correct the just-completed hole.
  • When all 18 holes are done, Settle Up appears.
Step 4 — Hole entry
  • Each player's score defaults to par. Use − / + to adjust.
  • Handicap stroke dots appear in the top-left corner of each score box (purple = strokes at the configured allowance).
  • Tap Junk → toggle to expand junk buttons for the hole. Buttons auto-hide for players scoring over par (most junk requires par or better). Greenie only appears on par 3s; Proxy on par 5s.
  • Tap Submit Hole N to save and return to the dashboard (hole counter auto-advances).
Step 5 — Settle Up

After all 18 holes, the settle page breaks down every segment, all presses, all junk events by hole, and the final per-player net. Tap Mark Round Complete to archive it.

Presses
  • A press starts a new side-bet from the current hole to the end of that segment.
  • Auto-press — fires automatically when a side goes 2-down. Disable in the bet/handicap setup screen (off by default for 1v1).
  • Manual press — any player calls a press via the Press Options panel on the dashboard.
  • Last-hole press — enabled only on the final hole of a segment.
  • Presses appear in the settle page with their individual outcomes.

Junk bets are per-hole achievements tracked alongside any stand-alone game. Enable at game setup; configure which types and their dollar amounts on the Junk configuration screen.

Exhibit A — automatic payouts
  • Greenie — closest to the pin on a par 3, must make par or better.
  • Proxy — closest to the pin on a par 5, must make par or better.
  • Birdie / Eagle / Double Eagle / Hole-in-One
  • Sandy — ball in a sand trap, makes par or better.
  • Bin Laden — ball visits two different sand traps, makes par or better.
  • Barky — ball hits a tree, makes par or better.
  • Sharky — ball goes in water, makes par or better.
  • Fencey — ball hits a fence, makes par or better.
  • Carty — ball hits a cart path, makes par or better.
  • Timmy — holes out from off the green.
  • Poley — holed a putt longer than the flagstick.
  • Punch Out Par — intentionally doesn't play toward the green (e.g. punches under a tree), still makes par.
  • 539 — putts from 50+ yards off the green and makes par or better.
  • The Hebrew Hammer — throws club in frustration, still makes par or better.
Exhibit B — declared bets
  • Sihoochi — declare this on another player predicting they will 3-putt. If they 1-putt instead, the payout is 4×.
  • Murphy — a player declares they'll get up-and-down from off the green before attempting the shot.
Special rules
  • Greenie/Proxy carryover — if no one wins the hole (e.g. nobody hit the green or nobody made par), the pot carries over and multiplies (2×, 4×, 8×…). The current multiplier shows as a badge on the button.
  • Junk Pop — players 15 handicap and above get a "Junk Pop" badge on their extra-stroke holes. Making par on those holes counts as a net birdie for junk purposes (e.g. qualifies for birdie junk payout).
  • Junk buttons auto-hide when a player's score is over par, since most junk requires par or better.

Signups let anyone create a registration sheet for an upcoming game so players can confirm attendance in advance. Tap Signups on the home screen.

Creating a signup
  • Title — e.g. "Saturday Morning Game".
  • Date, Where, Tee Time — displayed on the signup sheet.
  • Number of Spots — max players. Signup auto-closes when full.
  • Recurring (toggle) — if enabled, a new occurrence is auto-created after the date passes. Options: Weekly, Biweekly, Monthly. You can also create the next occurrence manually from the signup detail page.
  • Creator Name & PIN — PIN protects creator-only actions: remove players, open/close registration, delete. Anyone can view the signup and sign up without a PIN.
Signing up
  • Players can tap their name from the green roster panel to sign up in one tap (uses their stored handicap).
  • Or type a name manually; the app autocompletes from the member roster.
  • GHIN lookup is available to add someone new who isn't in the roster.
  • Once the signup is full, new names go to a waitlist. If a spot opens, the next waitlisted player can sign up.
Creator management (PIN required)
  • Remove any player from the list.
  • Manually open or close registration at any time.
  • Delete the signup entirely.
  • Create the next recurrence early (before the date passes).
Import to Main Event

On the Main Event setup form, tap ↓ From Signup to import all signed-up players directly into the player list. Duplicates are skipped automatically.

The Members roster stores known players with their name, GHIN number, and current handicap index. Access it at /members.

  • Players are added automatically the first time their name or GHIN is used in any game, signup, or GHIN lookup.
  • You can add members manually or look one up via GHIN to pre-populate their handicap.
  • Stored handicaps auto-fill in all setup forms — tap a name in any Roster panel to fill a slot instantly.
  • Each member can have a default tee stored, which pre-fills their tee on new rounds.
  • Handicap indexes refresh automatically whenever a player appears in a new round that includes a GHIN lookup.
  • The ↻ Refresh button on a member's card re-pulls their current GHIN index manually.

The app connects to the USGA GHIN API throughout for player lookups, handicap retrieval, course data, and score posting.

Player lookup
  • Enter a GHIN number (fastest) or "Last, First" name format in any player entry form, then tap Lookup.
  • State filter narrows results for common names. NC is pre-selected.
  • If multiple results appear, tap the correct one. The player's name, handicap index, and GHIN number are filled in automatically.
  • The player is also saved to the local roster for future autocomplete.
Course lookup
  • Any form with a course field has a preset list of common courses. Choose Other… to search by name and state.
  • Selecting a result loads all 18 pars, stroke indexes, slope, and course rating from GHIN for every available tee.
  • Per-player tee pickers appear once a course is loaded, enabling individual course handicap calculations.
Handicap calculation

Course Handicap = Handicap Index × (Slope / 113) + (Course Rating − Par). The app computes this automatically when slope and rating are filled. Playing Handicap = Course Handicap × Allowance (85% or 100%), optionally capped at 18.

Found at Main Event → 🔑 GHIN Auto-Post. Completely optional — if you add your GHIN login here, your scores will be posted to GHIN automatically when a game is marked complete, so you don't need to open the GHIN app afterward.

What gets posted
  • Your 18-hole adjusted gross score, on the course and tees you played.
  • Rounds played at The Preserve at Jordan Lake GC are posted as Home; all other courses as Away.
  • Your GHIN number must be registered at Preserve at Jordan Lake GC for Home rounds to count toward your handicap correctly.
Adding your credentials
  • Go to Main Event → 🔑 GHIN Auto-Post.
  • Find your name in the list (players who have appeared in at least one Main Event with a GHIN number stored show here).
  • Tap Add, enter your GHIN login email and password, and tap Save.
  • Your password is encrypted before storage and is never displayed. You can remove it at any time.

The app uses a lightweight PIN system. Anyone can create a game by choosing any PIN they like — there's no account or login required. The PIN only protects management/editing actions after creation.

What each PIN protects
  • Main Event PIN — edit teams, refresh handicaps, mark complete, delete. Does not block score entry or viewing.
  • Signup PIN — remove players, open/close registration, delete the signup.
  • Ryder Cup PIN — manage teams and matches.
  • Trip PIN — add/remove games from the trip.
  • Individual Stats player PIN — protect Log Round and Edit Shot Data for a player's own profile.
Signing in

Everyone signs in with the email address the group has for them: enter it, then type the 6-digit code we email you. Your phone then stays signed in. Can't get in (no email on file, or the mail never arrives)? Use "Trouble signing in?" on the sign-in page, and a group admin will help you.

Ball Position Check

Nassau match-score row

When a Nassau side game is active, the group scorecard adds a row below the player rows showing the current match score from the leading team's perspective for each hole. Values: positive number = up by that many, negative = down, 0 = all square. Multiple values separated by spaces indicate the main bet followed by active presses.

•
